BASIC SUGAR COOKIE
2 sticks butter, softened
1 cup sugar
1 egg
1 teaspoon vanilla
1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
3 cups flour
Preheat oven to 350.
Sift together flour, baking powder, and salt; set aside.
Using paddle attachment, mix together butter and sugar on medium speed for 5 minutes. Add egg and vanilla, then mix on medium until incorporated. Finally, add in flour mixture and mix until fully incorporated; dough will pull away from the walls of the mixer.
Remove dough from mixer and place between 2 pieces of parchment paper. This may take multiple pieces of parchment paper depending on how large you roll your dough sheet. After rolling, place on cookie sheet and chill in freezer for 15 minutes.
Take out of freezer and cut out desired shapes. Place on cookie sheet lined with parchment paper or a silicone liner. Bake for 10-12 minutes or until the edges just turn golden.
Cool and then decorate or just enjoy!
